Michael Brobson – Painting & Drawing

Michael 1

Michael Brobson lives and works from the City of Wells and much of his work is related to this City and the surrounding Somerset Levels but with a fondness of the sea, also sea related. In his work, it is the story of what is taking place and the atmosphere of the scene that is the main feature.  Painting mostly in acrylic but occasionally other mediums he has also worked on, illustrating publications.

Joanna Briar – Printmaking & Weaving

I am a printmaker and have been printing for five years working from my home in Glastonbury.  I work with lino and wood to create my printing blocks which are then printed onto Somerset paper or Japanese Shoji paper using my vintage book press.  I also work with acrylic and metal plates to create drypoint etchings on an etching press.  Recently, I have been learning to weave and I have created woven panels, scarves, table runners and bookmarks on a rigid heddle loom – many of which are parallel pieces to my printmaking.  I also teach part-time in the local primary school.

My work is inspired by nature and I love the process of carving into the surface of lino and wood and exploring the different marks that can be made.  There is nothing more exciting than lifting the paper for the first time on a freshly-inked block and seeing what impressions have been created.
